Washington, DC – Twenty-First Century Democrats is disheartened by Dan Seals’ loss in his bid for US Congress is Illinois’ 10th Congressional District. Seals was one of 34 candidates endorsed by Twenty-First Century Democrats, the nation’s 13th largest political action committee, during the 2006 election cycle.

“We are proud to have endorsed Dan Seals this election season,” said Kelly C. Young, president of Twenty-First Century Democrats. “Although Dan did not win today, we know that he will continue to fight for progressive ideals and motivate people to action in his community. We look forward to working with Dan again in his future endeavors.”

Late in this key congressional race, Seals drastically closed the gap in the polls between him and his opponent, Republican incumbent Mark Kirk. Last week, an independent poll even placed Seals ahead of Kirk 48% to 46%, making this race too close to call in the week prior to the election. Seals ran on a platform of working hard to provide opportunities for all by investing in education and reducing the federal deficit.

The endorsement of such a small number of candidates nationwide signals a new direction for Twenty-First Century Democrats. “We are bringing the Democratic Party back to the people, and we’re making it a party of movement again,” said Young. “We need strong risk-takers to once again stand up for what they believe in, share their vision with America, and motivate millions of citizens to become active in their communities. Dan Seals is the type of leader who can generate bold ideas that cross ideological lines, express our values, and solve problems that are facing our world today.”
