Sherrod Brown
“Helping people reach their goals in life – helping them to be all they can be: that’s leadership.”

As a Congressman from the 13th District since 1992, Sherrod Brown has earned a reputation as an independent voice for ordinary Americans and middle-class families – a man of principle who has made a career of standing up to special interests who have too much influence in Washington.

What Makes Sherrod an Extraordinary, Visionary Leader?

Sherrod Brown is the real deal – a truly genuine person of character who stands up for what he believes. Sherrod is a model Twenty-First Century Democrat.

”Sherrod Brown is not the sort of centrist Democrat that seems to be all the rage this year.” – The Toledo Blade

As a matter of principle, he refused to accept the Congressional Health Plan until healthcare is available for every Ohioan. At the same time, he continues to fight insurance company and pharmaceutical company lobbyists in order to make healthcare more affordable for seniors, workers, and small businesses.

Sherrod has worked across party lines to pass legislation that stopped pharmaceutical corporations from price gauging, thereby reducing the price of prescription drugs. An outspoken critic of the misguided Medicare Part D prescription drug program, he sponsored a law that would allow the government to negotiate bulk prices when purchasing prescription drugs on behalf of 44 million Americans, and would allow for seniors to get their drugs directly through Medicare, bypassing the private insurance industry altogether. He has authored legislation to strengthen safety standards in nursing homes and secured funding to make sure uninsured women diagnosed with breast or cervical cancer get the treatment they need.

Sherrod has a plan to unite Ohioans to “return our economy, our schools, our healthcare system, our environment, and our homeland security back into the hands of hard-working Ohioans, the backbone of our state.” Click here to sign his petition.

Background

Sherrod Brown was raised in Mansfield, Ohio and attended the local public schools. The son of a small town doctor who made house calls and treated everyone regardless of their ability to pay, Sherrod has never forgotten where he comes from.

As a Congressman from the 13th District since 1992, he’s earned a reputation as an independent voice for ordinary Ohioans and middle-class families – a man of principle who has made a career of standing up to special interests who have too much influence in Washington.

The author of a respected book, Myths of Free Trade, Sherrod has outlined a new plan for truly fair trade that protects workers’ rights, labor standards, food safety, and the environment while also supporting small businesses, family farmers, and ranchers here at home.

Prior to serving in Congress, Sherrod served two terms as Ohio’s Secretary of State and, in the early 1990s, he taught democracy and government in Poland as that nation was making the transition from Cold War Communism to thriving democracy. He’s also taught in Ohio’s public schools and at Ohio State University.

Sherrod currently resides in Avon, Ohio with his wife Connie Schultz, a columnist for the Cleveland Plain Dealer and winner of the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Commentary. Sherrod and Connie have three daughters and a son.
